It’s that time again to start thinking about shopping for people that you picked in the traditional gift exchange. Was it work or family, maybe it was friends? If the gift exchange doesn’t have some basic rules then it can be quite embarrassing to the person who gives a $20 gift, yet receives a $50 gift. Yes, it’s the thought that counts, but many may agree that it’s nicer and less stressful for those who need a limit.
It’s not selfish to ask people to set a limit; it’s really out of courtesy. It’s much easier to shop for the buyer as well. Being all over the place not knowing where to go or what department to shop in can be overwhelming when your list is very long with many gift ideas for everyone you’re shopping for.
How personal to get depends on how well you know that person. It may not be a bad idea to ask them to create a little gift idea list so it narrows down the things they actually want. After all wouldn’t you want to choose items that they are actually going to want?
Why not turn it into a fun game with everyone instead of trying to find the perfect gift? Set a $5 limit, and see how creative everyone can be with the gift! Make a game out of it, so no specific person is chosen. The game would be whoever picks that number that matches the gift. There is hilarity in that!
Remember to not stress around this time. Have fun, have a game plan, and make the best of this joyous holiday! Remember the reason for the season and take in all that is merry and bright!
