Whether the Weather Cooperates…Or Not

Isn’t it like the television commercial where the guy goes outdoors and sees that the sun is shining, and the air is finally warm? He darts back into the house and up the stairs removing clothing as he climbs the steps. He’s then seen running back down the stairs with his summer clothes on with flip flops ready to jump back outside to enjoy the summer day that finally arrived. He only then jumps out into snow that fell apparently while he was changing clothes. How surprising the weather is and we aren’t sure whether we should dress for warm or cold weather.

A good rule of thumb when getting dressed during the odd and forever-changing forecasts in Ohio is layering. Wearing many layers will keep you warm when necessary, and if it so happens to warm up from the day’s sun you can simply remove the layers. Although there are some brave souls out there who are wearing flip-flops in any weather. Brrrr!

It seems like the weather will stay warm with signs of spring like the sound of the birds who sing this time of year, buds on the trees showing themselves, spring plants that push through the soil like daffodils, tulip leaves, and hyacinths. It’s not here yet, and even though we anticipate its arrival we may still have up and down emotions from this darn surprising weather.

Take advantage of the good days by going for a walk, getting your planting beds and planters ready. Some of the flowers are already in the garden center to purchase. If you buy early be sure that the frost has passed. It’s typically a great time for planting as a rule after Mother’s Day. But…again the weather can surprise us with cold frost into June. Enjoy all the moments anyway. A sunny attitude will always brighten any day!
