Remember your first job? You most likely seeked employment to start becoming independent, want your own responsibility and of course the obvious…money! As youngsters we really didn’t look at our new source of income as a career. Typically youth seek fast food jobs, or stores in malls to be employed, and also specialty restaurants. Whatever it was we received training; lessons good and bad, and again…cash flow. This was not considered the life you planned to stay in for the long haul. It was either after school, or weekends, and maybe it was both.

Fast forward to when you started looking at a career. It usually was something of interest, and possibly a well-paying career. It wasn’t the easiest decision to make. Not many in their young lives even know what they want to do the rest of their lives. Not all have thought since they were kids of what they had a passion for that would make a good wage or salary. Some decisions are based solely on money. When one reaches closer to retirement age it’s often a reflection of what your passion really is or was and why that wasn’t the main reason for seeking a career out of it.

Passions seem to be the key to happiness where careers are concerned. When you do what you love, then you never work a day in your life they say. Isn’t this so very true? Some are very fortunate to be in the passion they love. Others have taken on work just to pay the bills, but they would do anything to win the lottery so they can leave what they are in. It’s a shame, but its reality.

I think it’s important to encourage kids to follow their dreams. Patents, teachers and influencers really should think what direction children are headed. Encouraging individuality is so important. Self-thinkers and doers gives them confidence to charge forward into their passions. Offering many pathways to learning and trying new ideas helps ignite a fire in their souls. They know what they love if they find it and are given opportunity to.

Passion is the key ingredient to life. Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life!
