The Holiday Decorating Dilemma

As most retail businesses want to get a jump start on the Holiday season for shoppers, the question is whether to go ahead and start decorating for Christmas or keep the fall items up until after Thanksgiving.

Traditions in the past were that Christmas wasn’t seen until after the feast-a-plenty. The dilemma now is with the cold air and snow possibilities, do we get the outside decorating done so we aren’t stuck in a freezing situation getting garland and bows hung on windows and doors of our homes? We feel a little pushed to move to the end of the year when we aren’t really ready.

It’s a personal choice what families decide to do. That will not stop the retailers from jumping ahead so they are also not stuck in the red. The Holiday season is the largest and most important part of sales for the year to be in the black. What does that term mean? Being in the red means if a person or company is in the red or if their bank account is in the red, they have spent more money than they have in their account and therefore they owe money to the bank. So, being in the black refers to a company's profitability. A company is said to be "in the black" if it is profitable or, more specifically, if the company produces positive earnings after accounting for all expenses.

So, you can see how important it is and why retailers want to push the holiday season back into September. It can backfire though for customers who may feel pushed too much. Again, it depends on the people’s own decisions and what is convenient and tradition to them.

What traditions do you observe? Do you get ready to go out on Black Friday, which is typically the day after Thanksgiving, or do you use that day to sleep in, and rest? Some companies have made Black Friday much easier for shoppers and their cashiers by having online sales where shopping is done from the convenience of home.

Whatever you do, and whatever you choose, just remember to be Thankful this time of year and always. Be a blessing to others. That is the most important thing to remember to do as a tradition you can pass down from generation to generation.
