What does your summer look like?

What has your summer looked like so far? Hard to believe we’re approaching August, really still lots of summer weather to enjoy, but school starts about 3 weeks into the month…what??  Time really flies, doesn’t it? Did you take a great vacation or create a fantastic staycation? Sometimes the best times are in your own backyard!

Maybe you’ve been spending your days at the ballfield, sports sometimes run through most of the summer, making it difficult to travel, so a staycation just might be the only “not so getaway” getaway you take and track starts toward the end of summer break, so again, you might be stuck right where you are.  Whatever the case, enjoy the people around you no matter where you go or don’t go.

Did you start any new traditions this summer, maybe a new way to get in shape? I started walking a mile every day. Now, I know that doesn’t sound like a lot, but I look at it this way, it’s better than walking zero every day. I measured the distant around my property in feet, divided it by 5280 feet, the number of feet in a mile and got the answer of how many laps around my property equals a mile; it’s six just in case you wanted to know. Why walk around my property…I live in an area where the state route is very busy, I also have two dogs that like to go wherever I go, so I wanted them to walk with me and still be safe, so every day they walk a mile around the property with me. Our property borders a field which happens to have a creek running through, so they sometimes venture off into the field, sometimes the creek (insert unhappy face here) but all in all, it’s the ideal way for all of us to get exercise and still stay safe. If there’s a will, there’s a way, you just have to find it!

Did you find a new hobby this summer? Personally, I find digging into a new hobby or setting new goals gives me a new lease on life. It gives me something to look forward to and stretches my mind, skills and sometimes challenges my physical being.

Okay, so I think I’ve given you some things to think about, read, talk about or completely ignore whatever you choose. But as always I want to leave you with this…do something different, challenge yourself, learn, grow, be thankful, be kind and do something really great for someone else…expect nothing in return, that’s the best gift of all!
