Ever since the emerald ash borer swept the Midwest 20 years ago the persuit was on to stop these pests. Today not only do we have tools to fight this insect but we are developing better management techniques every day.
Treating ash trees has long been shown to be effective against emerald ash borer. Our specialized treatment is injected into the trunk of a tree and travels throughout the live parts of leaves and stems.
If an ash tree is left untreated there are direct costs as the tree dies like removal, replacement, and potential loss of property or life when branches break. Indirect costs include increased run off, loss of home and yard shade, and lower property values. It is also important to consider the sentimental value of specific trees when planted to honor a loved one.
Keeping trees alive allows communities to benefit from advances in emerald ash borer management. There is great promise for the future. Parasitoids may be able to lower the total number of emerald ash borer and reduce the number of ash trees they are able to kill.
Call and schedule a No-Cost Consultation with one of our six ISA certified arborists to assess the trees on your property and how best to maximize their health by letting the experts manage the destructive insects on your property.
An insect control program can protect your landscape from the damaging effects of insect infestation by: tree beetles, deer ticks, grub worms, moths, mites and other destructive insects. We begin with a thorough inspection by an arborist, and follow it with an expert diagnosis, treatment, and regular monitoring.
Insects and mites usually attack plants that are in poor health and/or under stress. Therefore, your arborist's first priority is to restore the health of your trees so that they can naturally resist insect and mite infestations. Our insect control philosophy is to use low impact , environmentally friendly methods and ingredients.
COMMON INSECT CONTROL PROBLEMS

Deer tick control is important for protecting your family and pets from Lyme Disease. This treatment is applied to the ecotone areas and sometimes to the lawn to kill the ticks. The ecotone is the boundary zone between lawn areas and wooded areas and is the preferred habitat of the deer tick. Control of the tick population in this area of your yard is vital because according to published research, approximately 90% of deer ticks on a property will be found in the ecotone areas. deer-tickWe advocate deer tick control treatments at the end of May/early June and again in September , and monthly treatments during the following season.
McCullough’s will schedule tick control treatments at the most advantageous time to ensure maximum effect.
Tree Beetles and Borers
Borers such as lilac, rhododendron, shot hole, dogwood, bronze birch and elm bark beetles are damaging insects. Without plant health care and/or insect control services, they can cause extensive damage by feeding in the conductive tissues of the trunk and larger branches. This cuts off the supply of nutrients and water to the canopy and usually results in the death of the tree.
