Knowing Who You Are

Do you have a favorite pair of shoes that are old and worn, but make you feel awesome when you slide your feet into them? How about that old sweater or sweatshirt that you’ve had forever that you throw on every Saturday morning? And then there’s the old leather recliner that calls your name at the end of the day and wraps itself around you as if to hug and say, welcome home old friend. Perhaps your coffee mug has many cracks and chips, but is the only one you’ll drink your morning “joe” out of, while wearing the jeans you had in college with both knees worn through. Those of us who can identify with these things and feelings have been called creatures of habit or perhaps some have even suggested that we are stuck in a rut, but I like to think that these are things that we call the “warm fuzzies” or “coming home again,” or just being ourselves! These are things and places that make us feel safe and secure, warm and loved or just simply in the right place where you can sigh and smile and totally relax.

Some of us are just that comfortable with who we are that we can say we like the holes in our shoes and jeans, the stains on our sweatshirt, the chips in our mug and the faded, worn spots on our chair. We are the ones who won’t endure a mid-life crisis or experience the need to buy an expensive sports car or dye our hair back to the days of our youth. Why you ask, because we are the ones who never really cared what someone thought about our old shoes, vintage sweater or holey jeans, so we will not experience a crisis because we know who we are.

There is a true sense of security and purpose when you know who you are. It’s a peaceful place where the little things mean so much and where simple things bring total happiness.

I sit in the shade of a mighty tree that has been around for a hundred years or more and I think its beauty is magnificent. It doesn’t have to do anything, just be and it is truly beautiful! Even a tree that has seen the end of its life can be purposeful, providing vegetation for plants around it, creating a home for animals or a wonderful place to sit and rest when you are hiking or mushroom hunting. It’s the simple things that make us content, peaceful and happy.

At McCullough’s Tree Service, we know who we are. We are solid and secure and we want so share that peace of mind feeling with you. Call us today, we’re here for you.
