Maybe you haven’t decided how you want to decorate your home this year. There are only 13 days left until Christmas Day. Sometimes you want décor that you can throw away when you’re done. Fresh pine, pinecones, orange peels, cloves, and cinnamon are just a few of the items you can incorporate into your rustic look.
Looking outdoors or finding a woodsy area nearby is something that is really fun to do. Spending time in nature seeing some of the wildlife that still hangs around for the holidays can be a bonus for the experience. Be sure to have a sack so you can fill it with your fun finds from Mother Nature herself. Sometimes sticks and dried berries are what can top off the homey look.
Once you gather all you wish to use for your décor, think of styles you’d like to create. Did you gather several pine branches? Those can be wired together to create a natural garland. The garland can have pinecones added, and a few branches to give it a really rustic look. Try also sticking some branches of trees in the Christmas tree. Using oranges or the rind with cloves pressed into the outer skin can be a wonderful fragrance.
When creating some items be sure to sprinkle some holiday fragrance from cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and peppermint oils. There are recipes to create for stove top or oven fragrances to fill up the whole house. Always follow directions for safety reasons.
Gingerbread cookies can be used as decoration throughout the pine and sticks. Once you have all the neutral colors out such as greens, browns, tans, and whites add a pop of color such as red ribbon or red dried berry stems. The oranges will add a pop of color as well. Even gold accents that you already have in bulbs or accessories to the mantle will add a little pop.
Once the holidays are over and you are ready to remove the items that were used to decorate, some can be put back in nature for the animals to use for their nests or dens, and some even used for food. Be sure no sparkles are present as they are not environmentally friendly. Only put in nature what you brought out of it. Enjoy a real old fashioned Christmas this year!
